Suggest Treatment For Tightness And Blisters On The Knee

About seven days ago, while getting out of my car, the back of my left knee became very tight. This continued to some tightness under my knee cap. two days ago, it was feeling a bit better but still tight. I knelt down rather low and I felt a sort of pop, sort of like a blister when popped. It felt better for a day or so. I went for a light run this morning and now I am having trouble walking. there is an annoying click I can feel when I bend my knee to walk on both sides of the knee cap. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Tightness & blisters on the knee commonly occurs due to stress & overuse. Popping sound from the affected knee is indicative of meniscus/ ligament tear, insufficient synovial fluid in the joint. Crepitus is also indicative of medical conditions like OA, RA & Patellofemoral pain syndrome.

Treatment is by medicine like NSAIDS, ice packs, physical therapy or a brace to support the knee. You are suggested to visit ER, get clinically assessed. Your treating doctor will tell you to get blood & imaging tests to detect pathology like tear, injury, fracture, OA, RA, etc. Your treatment will depend on the severity of the pathology detected.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
