Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis

I nap sometimes. I wear a bit pap. Within the last three months I have had difficulty fully waking up. Sometimes it takes up to 20 minutes. An ambulance has been called twice. The first time I didn t have the biggest pap on so my lungs filled up with Carbon Dioxide but the second time I had the biggest pap on. I just don t understand.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If you have symptoms of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis you should first get clinically examined by a GP & get diagnostic tests done to detect the area & degree of the affected lung. Get blood tests (to detect antibodies related to PAP), bronchoscopy, Pulmonary function tests, X-ray chest, lung biopsy, CT, etc.

Your treatment will depend on the clinically symptoms & reports detected. Mild symptoms resolve by supplemental oxygen therapy. No treatment may be required. If a portion of the lung is affected the treating doctor may wash the surfactant out of the lungs with saline solution. If the whole lung is affected, total lung lavage may be required to be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
