Suggest Treatment For Swollen Mid Back After Injury

Fell down flight of stairs 2 days ago. Immediate swelling mid back on left side. Bruising followed. Taken ibuprofen & resting. Swelling has encompassed lower left side. Severe pain near rib. Feeling weak & nausea continues. Just moved to new city. Any advice on doctor visit or just continue rest ?

Hi,

Most likely there will be a contusion only. But if significant pain persists after two days of rest and ibuprofen, I would recommend to consult a doctor to look for any infected hematoma or rib fracture. Meanwhile, continue analgesics. Nausea may be related to gastritis from ibuprofen- so take it after food with a full glass of water. Adding antacids like pantoprazole also will help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
