Suggest Treatment For Swollen Bruising On Eye After Injury

18 year old boys gets hit in the eye by dodgeball. Swells shut for 4 hours - then able to open it after icing. Vision does not seem affected, just pink, a bit sore, and looks like bruising around the eye is occurring. Do we need to have it looked at by a medical doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to the injury.
I suggest to use cold compresses for local application.

I also suggest to use anti inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen to relieve the swelling.

I recommend to use artificial tears to relieve the swelling inside the eye. If the swelling does not reduce, you can see a doctor for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
