Suggest Treatment For Swollen Ankle

Hi ...I have a swollen ankle. It is swollen below the ankle bone and is painful. Do not recall falling or twisting it. It does however snap when I extend the foot/point toes. Should I put Ice, wrap or does it need to be checked. I can walk on it but hurts when I put weight on it. It also hurts a little when I am not putting weight on it.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thank you for asking HCM.
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due to strain or sprain. Ice pack application will be helpful. You can apply on and off for 15 to 20 minutes at a time. This can be repeated 3 to 4 times daily. Crepe bandage application is also helpful. If pain is increasing or no improvement then consult an orthopedician and have a X ray to rule out any possibility of fracture.
Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
