Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Ankle In A Child

A week ago, I was changing my two yr old grandsons diaper. I was on the floor with him and had my leg crossed in front of me. He started kicking his legs and his little heal landed about an inch above my left ankle. It hurt extremely! There was not immediate bruising but it did swell some. Just now there is purple bruising about the size of my fist in that area. Why did it take so long for the bruising to show up?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to the injury. The bruising needs its time to appear and is completely normal after the injury. I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Acetominophen in case of pain. I also suggest using cold compresses for local application at the injured area.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
