Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Knee

Daughter has a banged knee (twisted, pulled tendon?). Her right knee is slightly swollen after 5 hours of collision/impact w another player. No discoloration, just painful. Can straighten out a little & can bend a little. Beyond a little , knee becomes very painful. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Accidental injury to knee causing swelling and limitation to movement of the joint should be examined by the doctor. I would suggest you to get an Xray of the kneww joint done and see an orthopedician.

Once he confirms there is no serious injury to any structure around the joint, with good rest and anti-inflammatory pain killer medicines as adviced by your doctor, she will recover fast. If there is some injury to internal structures or dislocation then the doctor will treat the same appropriately so I would suggest you to see the doctor and follow his advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar, General & Family Physician
