Suggest treatment for swelling in the knee after getting it twisted during a workout

Yesterday, I was at my gym class and twisted my knee oddly where there was a brief discomfort. I continued my workout that included squats. Nothing noticeable aftermy workout. A few hours later as I was sitting at a staff meeting, I noticed significant swelling and stiffnes on the outside of my knee where the IT band starts. I wasn t able to bend the knee to sit but the swelling has subsided somewhat. Still elevating, icing and taking motrin.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
It can be a spring or torn ligament.
Immobilise the limb and apply icepack.
Consult an orthopaedic at the earliest and plan for an MRI scan.
Wishing all the best.
Thanks
