Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Foot In A Child

My daughter is 4 months old, born 02/29/16. Her right foot is a bit swollen, and she doesn t seem to be in any pain when touched on the foot. She hasn t been injured in anyway, however I worry that its something I m not aware of, being a new mom...I d appreciate your help! Thanks.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your short history about your 4 month old daughter, noticed swelling of right foot, no tenderness, no injury, wants to know more as you are a new Mom.
It is good that you have noticed the swelling in right foot, meaning left foot is normal.
Since there is no tenderness, the worry is less.
If there is no redness or so then the worry is still less.
This can be due to some insect bite or so.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Elevate the right foot on a small pillow to keep it above heart level when the child is sleeping.
Do not fondle the area at all as fondling can increase the swelling.
Please consult your Pediatrician immediately as clinical evaluation, examination will give a probable diagnosis and have proper management if needed.
Do not try anything else at home as the medications are calculated as per the weight.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
