Suggest Treatment For Swelling And Pain In The Knee Caused By A Meniscus Tear

3 years ago I had sudden pain and swelling in knee. Diagnosed with two torn meniscus. Had surgery. Pain persisted on outside of left knee. Three months after meniscus surgery, developed valgus deformity then had a partial knee replacement. Pain still persists on outside of left knee. Hurts more than the meniscus pain, but less than walking bone on bone of knee replacement. Can t get my surgeon to realize I am still in a lot of pain. It keeps me up at nite and cant put any pressure on knee, not even a stretchy sleeve. why is my knee still hurting.

Hi,

NOted your history about meniscus tear followed by surgeries but the pain still persists, keeping you awake at night.
Sine your detailed history mentions that the pain is outside the knee joint proper the cause may be one of the following:
Nerve compression or pinching can cause pain outside of the knee.
May be tendinitis, tenosynovitis, muscle tear or even the problems with deep vein and so on.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
Consult another Orthopedic SUrgeon, get another opinion of a Neurologist also.
Palpate for yourself to know where exactly is the pain and tenderness so that you can communicate well with your Doctors, proper history is very important for a proper diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
