Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
This morning I felt a cold coming on. I work in a clinic and one of my coworkers didn't mention feeling sick at all but seen a doctor at the end of the day and she tested positive for strep throat. I touched several things she had been touching. As the day is going on in starting to feel worse. I don't work today or tomorrow and my town clinic is completely full. If I'd go to an urgent care would it be too soon to test for strep since my symptoms just started this morning and arnt bad yet or would it tell me if I have strep already so I could treat it right away?
As per your query cold is a viral infection while strep throat is a bacterial infection, so in case if you are having a feeling of catching cold then you are probably infected with virus. So it is not due to strep throat. I would suggest you to as of now you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and do warm saline gargles.
Steam inhalations and sucking throat lozenges can relieve. Avoid spicy and chilled foods. In case if there is congestion in nose you can take decongestant nasal sprays. Drink plenty of warm water and other warm fluids.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
