Suggest Treatment For Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease

I have stage 3 chronic kidney disease. Creatinine is 1.99. Potassium level has gone up to 5.5. I know I have to cut back on fruits, potatoes etc. Is my kidney problem causing my potassium levels to go up? Could this lead to heart problems? Is there a medication that can be taken to lower potassium levels?
