Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Mouth Ulcers

Hi Dr. I had unprotected sex at the end of July. And 8 days later I developed mouth sores inside my lower lip and 3 days I developed a sore throat. I took Augmentin for the sore throat 4 days later and it went away. Now, it has been 3 months since possible exposure, and I'm still getting oral sores. I recently had a cold/flu like symptoms last week which lasted 3 days, but received the flu shot last month. I have never gotten mouth sore like this in my life. No oral sex just heterosexual. Herpes test was negative. I've had hep A,B,C vaccines. Are these signs of ARS symptoms?

Hello,

It seems mouth ulcers that occur again and again and if herpes investigation is negative then it seems to be due to recurring aphthous stomatitis leading to inflammation inside mouth and along with it there seems to be aphthous ulcers or canker sores. I would suggest you to consult an oral physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests can help in diagnosis. Treatment of underlying cause will relieve the symptoms. As of now you can start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve the symptoms.

You can also take a multivitamin tablet daily. You can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. Suck ice and do cool water rinses. Avoid spicy food.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Arora
