I am 32m and have a sore throat for about 2.5 days which started on Thursday afternoon, very mild cough, no fever, no cervical lymphadenopathy, no exudates, moderate yellow sputum, leukocytosis to 14.5 with a normal differential and negative rapid strep on thursday. Associated with mild chest pain as well as fatigue and chills that peaked yesterday and are now improving. Sore throat is still going strong. I know that by CENTOR I am low risk for strep but the leukocytosis and yellow sputum point more towards a bacterial as opposed to a viral infection and the rapid strep has a fairly low sensitivity and untreated strep can have pretty gross long term consequences (rheumatic fever, post strep GN, rheumatic heart disease). Should I take amoxicilin or just let it be?
