Suggest Treatment For Sleepwalking In Children

My 9 year old grandson gets up at night and raids the fridge and pantry. I think he is sleep walking. My son disagrees and punishes him by confining him to his room for hours at a time. He was diagnosed with a light version of PTSD. His parent s marriage broke up about 3 years ago. He is the only child at home now. His father has sole custody of him. I think my son is way too hard on his son.

You are right. The behavior of the child shows that he is under stress and is insecure. He needs a lot more attention, reassurance and needs a lot more time from the family. By punishing him, the father is actually increasing the severity of the problem. I would suggest that the father should talk to a counsellor or a child psychiatrist. You may also do that on this platform. Thanks
