Suggest Treatment For Shoulder And Elbow Joints Pain

I am a 61 yo male, 160lbs
I bike and walk every day but my work as a public works employee is strenuous. My issue is being awakened by severe joint pain, mostly in my shoulders and elbows. They hurt so bad for a bit that it hurts to move initially.
Any suggestions to help me thru the night?
( except that I'm getting old!)
Thanks
Mike

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
welcome to Health care magic

The pain in shoulders and elbows may be due to osteoarthritis.
If I were your treating doctor,I would recommend,
-Analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen twice aday with antacids for couple of days.
-Local diclofenac gel and ice pack application for 15-30 minutes may give some relief.
-If pain is still unbearable for after this, need to visit orthopaedician for proper physical examination and investigations.
-Along with biking and walking, also do some muscle strengthening exercises of arm and shoulders.

Hope I answered your query.
Feel free to ask any more doubt.
