Suggest Treatment For Shortness Of Breath And Wheezing When Diagnosed With Bilateral Pneumonia

Hi, I m a 25 year old otherwise healthy male serving as an officer in the US Navy. I was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia about three weeks ago and hospitalized. I ve since had a clean CT scan but I am having recurring symptoms like shortness of breath, wheezing and tightening of airways (I am otherwise very healthy/active and have never had these symptoms or a need to be hospitalized prior to the pneumonia). I am a little concerned this evening since I have been off of prednisone for two days and am currently having these symptoms. If I use my rescue inhaler every 4 hours can I expect these symptoms to go away? My only trigger that I ve seen is that they come on strongly at night and usually are better after a cup of coffee in the morning. I am not anxious and do not feel a need to go to the ER but I m wondering at what point I should consider doing so. Is it okay to sleep if I m tired?

Hi,
Noted your history of clear CT scan of the lungs after admission and treatment of bilateral pneumonia, but hte wheezing, coughing and tightening of airways continues as off Prednisone for the last 2 days, is more so in the evening. Since your CT scan of lungs is clear, there is no pneumonia at the moment and seems to be well treated. The Wheezing and other symptoms are suggestive of the bronchitis part of your disease still continued as it takes time for the respiratory mucosa to heal and rejuvenate. There is also a chance of post-nasal drip causing the same problems as it irritate the throat and upper airways to cause coughing in particular. The remaining inflammation of the respiratory system is causing your symptoms.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:Take steam inhalation for relief.Anti-cold and anti-cough syrups to suppress the coughing.Request your Doctor to see you as soon as possible for starting oral steroid if required.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
