General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
You seem to have allergic bronchitis with probably secondary bacterial infection which brings about swelling of air passage & difficulty in breathing leading to shortness of breath &difficult expectation.
You need a detailed chest examination with needful investigations like blood counts & X-ray chest & allergy screening test followed by specific treatment. Please consult a chest physician.
Till then you should take rest. Protect from exposure to cold, smoke ,dust &known allergens.
Drink warm water. Eat easy to digest nutritious food. Avoid cold, sour & spicy food. Over the counter cough syrup like Benadryl expectorant would help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
