Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband just found out he has shingles in his eye. can I get this? what if somebody has been around him already but we are just now finding this out. will they get it? should I get a vaccine? we have grandkids over a lot. worried about them getting it.
Shingles can lead to serious eye damage and even loss of vision, especially if not treated quickly and properly. Acyclovir is the antiviral which should be started as soon as possible in shingles.
For pain and inflammation in eyes, a steroid drop may be prescribed. Shingles are caused by the varicella-zoster virus which also causes chicken pox.
Patient with shingles can not spread shingles to another person but he or she can spread the virus to another person which could then cause the person to develop chickenpox if he or she is not vaccinated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
