Hi,

The most common reason for acute (recent onset) of vomiting would be a viral or bacterial infection of the stomach. Once there is a 4 hour period with no vomiting, you can try the toast or any other dry foods, that is biscuits, and plain rice. According to the BRAT diet, you can also try banana or apple sauce. The electrolytes that you mentioned are also important.

If you are still vomiting, you should use, 1 tsp to 1 tbs every 5 mins for an hour then increase the amount if you can tolerate it with no vomiting. Medicines such as Pepto Bismol or Dramamine would help if the vomiting is severe.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
