Suggest Treatment For Severe Vomiting And Aches

I think a friend might have norovirus. HER mother is in the hospital and she has been there extensively. BAD vomiting for over 2 days. Slight temp, but aches all over and feels it deep in the bones. SO sick she can t find a position to sleep in. SAYS she has never felt this sick.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is quite possible, since her mother is unwell that she does have the norovirus or another viral or bacterial infection that can cause these symptoms, that is rotavirus. Treatment is essentially the same regardless and may involve the following:

(1) holding off all solid food till there is a 4 hour window with no symptoms

(2) dramamine, pepto bismol would help with the vomiting

(3) pepcid or zantac would help with any bloating. If she feels very unwell then she should be seen by her doctor for assessment and treatment.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
