Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Shoulders And Neck
My husband (69) fell backwards while getting out of his 25 ft. delivery truck and struck the ground. At the last minute, he lifted his head so it didn t hit the ground. He has been complaining about pain in his right shoulder and at the base of his neck between his shoulder blades. Can t sleep much at all. He s using Icy Hot patches. I ve urged him to see a doctor. He is treated at a VA medical center and, while he has always had great treatment, it takes quite a while to get an appointment. What can I do?
It is important that your husband get an X-ray of the shoulders done as it is possible that he may have fractured a bone due to the fall.
He should restrict movement of the affected area till the time fracture is ruled out.
Meanwhile, he can take an over the counter painkiller like Advil to relieve the pain. For further assessment, you should consult an orthopaedic surgeon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nazma.amman, General & Family Physician
