Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Shoulders And Elbows

My boyfriend, age 60, just got a lower facelift. He is healing well (2 weeks post op). However, he has developed severe pain in his right shoulder and elbow. The elbow paid in most extreme and he states it resembles tennis elbow he had many years ago - but much worse. Could this be related to the recent surgery? He will go see a doctor, but I wondered if there could possibly be a relationship to the surgery. Thank you, Rosemary

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Yes, the shoulder and elbow pain can be related to the face lift surgery. A rare complication of the face life procedure is injury to the spinal accessory nerve which can cause shoulder and elbow pain. Additional symptom which would be noticed is weakness of the affected shoulder.
Also, kindly visit and show the doctor to rule out tennis elbow as well
