are you having any fevers? Or any other symptoms? such as tiredness, Weakness?

whenever you have a problem with a single joint, you always suspect infection in this joint, which will show up with the above symptoms together with pain, redness, swelling of this joint. which is more likely if your joint was previously injured, possibly sometime earlier in life or if you have arthritis.

other possible causes May include pseudogout, which is a crystal induced arthropathy, or physical injury to the joint.

I suggest you go to visit your doctor and have it checked out, just to be on the safe side. He will likely do some physical exams/tests, and depending on the result, provide you with the best treatment you need.
