Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a pain in my right hip area that makes it very painful to sit for any period of time, but the pain goes away if I stand or lie down. I have not fallen or injured myself. This just started yesterday and does not seem to respond to Tylenol or Aleve. What do you think this is and do I need to see a doctor?
Severe pain in the hip area is commonly due to sciatica in which the pain may radiate towards the back and legs also. Other medical conditions that cause similar symptoms are osteo-arthritis, RA, muscle strain, iliotibial band syndrome (IT band syndrome), hematoma, bursitis, tendonitis or fracture.
You can take NSAIDS, Naproxen, one SOS when pain. Gentle massage with pain relieving ointments may help. Warm or cold compression is also effective. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an Orthopedics or GP. Get all required blood tests, urinalysis & imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing you discomfort. Get treated at the earliest.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
