Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In The Arms And Shoulders

My brother has pain in both arms and shoulders. He got up yesterday morning to use the bathroom, got very dizzy enough that he passed out. He can t lift his arms above his shoulders without it being VERY uncomfortable! They have him here in Ft. Myers @Healthpark and have run all tests and everything has come back negative including x-rays. Now they have taken blood cultures as ordered by an infectious disease doctor and waiting for the results of the cultures. In your opinion, what does this sound like?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Commonly severe pain in the arms and the shoulders is due to poor posture (pinched nerve in the neck), arthritis, peripheral vascular disease, rotator cuff tear/injury or bone fracture.

Cervicogenic dizziness can be due to cervical vertigo. Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. In the meantime avoid driving, stay at rest & take a course of Meclizine to feel better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
