Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Foot After Injury

Hello, I m a 59yr old female who rolled my left foot into a hole in the ground 3 weeks ago on 16/9/2015. Sharp burning pain mid foot and unable to stand without limping. X-ray showed no breaks. 1 week later lots of bruising along bottom edge of foot from heel to small toe. CT Scan showed comminuted fracture of calcaneus near the area of the brevis muscle under the ankle bone. My question is how long, in general, does it take for this type of fracture to heal and what processes take place and which length of cam boot is more suitable? I have a short boot at present but it is too heavy and irritates my ankle. I m currently at the 3rd week of recovery. I have alot of burning pain at site of injury and sometimes it feels as though I m standing on a sharp stick or stone under the heel pad. Are you able to assist.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Generally it will take eight to twelve weeks for complete healing with non operative treatment and healing will be faster if you opt for surgery.

However you might experience some degree of pain and discomfort even after fracture healing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
