Suggest Treatment For Severe Itching Pain On Arm Due To Cellulitis

Cellulitis from a wasp or hornet sting on my arm. 2 injections and 2 scrips. Didn t get the scrip for hydroxyzine because Medicare plan would not pay. Is there any comparable substitute? Benadryl not touching the TERRIBLE bone-deep itching and pain! I d claw my arm off if it would help. Except for shingles, I ve never hurt so badly!

Hi and welcome to HCM
Don't worry, the itching and pain will subside soon.
If it is very severe I would suggest another dose of corticosteroid injection a few hours later.
As for medication, apply a steroid antibiotic combination such as flutibact/ fucibet. Since you mentioned cellulitis I hope you are on antibiotic tablets as well. Calamine or a menthol based lotion can be applied few times a day to calm the itching/burning.
If hydroxyzine is unavailable , any antihistamine such as cetrizine or fexofenadine will help.Take it before you sleep at night and you can repeat in the morning if itching is severe.
Do not scratch/rub/squeeze over it.
Hope this helps. Do see your doctor once you finish your medication course.
