Suggest Treatment For Severe Headache

I had an appendectomy on Thursday and have since came home. I am not as sore as I was but I am extremely light headed and have a terrible headache. All I want to do is sleep. I haven t taken any of the pain medication today and I was wondering if my headaches could be from not taking the pills? I have never been dependent on pills and would rather not take them if they are going to cause an issue. I also have not had a bowel movement since Thursday.

So this all depends on the type of headache you have. Diagnosis of the type of headache is the most important thing. If there is nausea, light and sound sensitivity and it's worse when you walk around then it is probably migraine. If you have had them before, then it is a good chance that this is migraine.

There is something called Medication overuse headache (MOH) where people taking too many symptomatic pain relievers like narcotics can start having more headaches. The old term was called rebound because when you stop the pain relievers, people get worse headaches that eventually wear off. However it takes a long time for this to happen, not from 4 days of pain medicine.

You will have to talk to your doctor, especially if this has never happened before. He or she needs to make sure this is nothing worse than a migraine
