I am taking flagyl for a third dose to treat CDiff. The first time I took it was in reaction to an antibiotic I had stopped taking for a tooth infection. It was the usual 10 day course of the capsules (1 3x day). After I felt better, about 14 days after I finished the first course, the dentist put me on Penicillin for the tooth. within 24 hrs the diarrhea was back. I stayed on the flagyl capsules till last thursday. On fri am, I noted the diarrhea was still there so the doc put me back on flagyk it for an extended 10 day plan of the pills (500 mg every 8 hrs). I restarted on Fri am (3/24) and have until Sun to finish the medication. I sense a slow recovery but the stools look the same and am having 4-5 movements/day. I went back to work yesterday. Today, the reflux is really bothering me so I have been taking Zantac with the flagyl dose. My question is, might the capsules cause less of a gastric reaction? also, I note that there are other medications which may be more successful in preventing recurrences. I have started taking some probiotics, Olive leaf, oregano oil and clorophyll also.
