I m 52 years old and I have Cerebral Palsy. For the past couple of months I have not been able to have a bowel movement without the assistance of strong enemas and oral intervention (go lightly and other stool softeners). I ve had multiple trips to the emergency room. Some trips have been productive, the last was not and I was therefore admitted. My last bowel movement was in the hospital a week and a half ago. A gallon of go lightly was the key. I feel no urge to use the bathroom anymore and mostly am relieved of gas. My question is does the sphincter muscle just stop working?
