Suggest Treatment For Severe Bruising On The Knee After An Injury

I am a 69 year old female, and fell down on a sidewalk a week ago, striking land on the left side of my left knee. No pain except for when touched in the area. I was unable to put an ice pack on it until later that evening when I got off work. Bruising began on the right side of the knee & on the left side. Bruising is now working it s way over the swelling which has receded but is still there. It hasn t kept me from doing normal activities or work, but am wondering why some swelling is still there. FYI, this was an accident while picking up my grandson at school & not work related so I have not seen a need to see a doctor.
