Suggest Treatment For Severe Bouts Of Coughs And Sore Throat

I have been having bad bouts of coughing for the last week. Only coughing up occasionally a small amount of biege coloured mucus. For example, I woke up this morning at 3:30 coughing my guts up (sorry for the terminology used), and was still continually coughing at 6. I tried to use my ventolin inhaler when I first woke up but I couldn t even inhale that properly because I was short of breath. I cough so hard/much that I then have to hold the back of my head because it hurts so much. I have been feeling a bit wheezy. I have been taking my Oxis 6ug turbuhaler and have been taking Bisolvon dry pastilles which have dextromethorphan hydrobromide 10.5mg/packet of 20 I bought 3 days ago and just took the last one. I have no sore throat or chest pains......the cough will just start out of no where. I coughed so hard/much last night, that I was sick but as I had not eaten all I vomited up with white froth.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe bouts of coughs and sore throat which is due to severe upper respiratory tract infection and it could be due to granular pharyngitis/ bronchitis. I would suggest visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get chest X-ray and pulmonary function tests done to check extent of infection and start treatment accordingly. Do warm saline gargles. You should avoid cold liquids and spicy food. You take nasal decongestant sprays, Antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. Co amoxiclav along with cetrizine is recommended. You can take Diphenhydramine for 3-4 days. You should take steam inhalation. Avoid exposure to allergens as well. You should take some mucolytic drugs to dissolve mucus and your symptoms will be relieved.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
