Hello I had a severe allergic reaction and was given 2 lots of steroids over a 3 week period . The dose 30 mg for 5 days each time . I react very quickly to any medication and I ve noticed I ve put on weight and my abdomen is a lot bigger than Noramal . I m usually a 10/12 dress size but I m more like a 14 around my stomach is this rapid weight gain through the two steroid courses?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Increased body weight and fat around belly is usually a side effect of steroids usage. Even Cushing's syndrome can happen. I believe you may need to talk to your doctor to reduce a bit the steroid dosage gradually. Also, increase physical activity.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
