Suggest Treatment For Severe Abdominal Pain And Nausea

Hi my daughter is 12 and hasn t started her cycle yet but she has been complaining of pain in her lower right abdominal area, nausea, pain when she moves, pain in her abdominal area when she urinates. She started really complaining about it for about an hour. Should I take her to the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

She should be seen to rule out infection as a cause. Infections of the urinary tract can cause abdominal pain along with discomfort on urination. In some cases, urinary infections can spread up the urinary tract from the bladder to involve the ureter or the kidneys. She needs a physical examination and urinalysis. Imaging may also be needed, that is an ultrasound of the abdomen.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
