General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the situation you are going through.

1. Pain in your back and leg are typical for sciatica. Antiinflammatory medications you are currently taking will help reduce inflammation and pain.

2. With regards to the swelling on your ankle, it might be due to :
- standing for long periods of time
- problems with deep blood vessels in the legs

I advise to :
- avoid standing for long time
- raise your legs
- apply cold compresses on the swollen area
- if the episodes will repeat , I advise to run doppler ultrasound of leg's blood vessels
- urine analysis to rule out proteinuria

Hope it was of help!
