Hi, i have gone through the treatment for scabies for permethin twice. Some of the old red bumps are now drying out and have a puss but not all. The itching still continues but its not as intense as it used to and is more frequent early in the morning or when I am sweating. Is this normal ? Is there any cream that will help the red patches heal/disappear faster ?
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Itching persisting for a few days after treatment for scabies is not uncommon. It is commonly due to hypersensitivity to dead mite that persist in skin for a few days, provided there is no re-infection and all other members in the family have been adequately treated. Since some of the lesions, as you mention also contain pus which suggests secondary bacterial infection secondary to scratching, the best course of action would be to start a week course of an Oral antibiotic. Topically you may use a steroid+antibiotic combination cream, twice daily for itchy lesions/ patches. An OTC oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily will provide you symptomatic relief from itching. I suggest you to visit a dermatologist in your region for a confirmatory diagnosis as well as appropriate prescription.
