Suggest Treatment For Recurring Split On Tongue Post Stitching It After An Accident

My grandson was recently in a serious bicycle accident. He had mouth injuries knocking some teeth out splitting his tongue. They did emergency surgery on him and stitched his tongue back together, however one of the stitches came out in the tongue is coming apart the doctors don t seem to be concerned about it. Is there anymore that we can do or will it still heal back together.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as your grandson has got a tongue split due to traumatic injury caused due to accident for which he has got stitches in his tongue, out of which one stitch has come out..
But in case if the other stitches are intact then you need not to worry as the healing will take place well without any discomfort or problem..

Other thing that I would like to tell you is that the oral cavity including the tongue has a very profuse blood supply and due to this reason any injuries or wounds in the mouth tend to heal up faster..
So you need not to worry as his tongue will heal back soon..

Only thing that you should take care of is not to let any food to accumulate in that area and keep the area clean to prevent infections..
Make him do warm saline gargles..
Gargle with antiseptic mouthwash suitable for kids if he is less than 14 years of age is to e done otherwise use the regular mouthwash as used in adults..
Maintain a good oral hygiene and feed him with soft diet..
Cold compresses will further help in healing faster as well as relieve inflammation if present..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
