General & Family Physician 's  Response
A healthy vagina is naturally acidic and contains rich quantities of beneficial bacteria(Doderlein's bacili) that help fend off infections and maintain a pH level of 3.8-4.4 in women of reproductive age, by producing lactic acid. The acidity retards the growth of many strains of pathogenic microbe. A healthy vagina will also secrete small amounts of discharge to keep itself clean.
Barrier contraceptive and antibiotics are know to increase the pH.
If you use soap, antibacterial, take baths that are too hot, go in pools frequently, use scented pads, use lotion too close to your vagina the ecosystem in your vagina maybe disrupted.
To maintain vulvovaginal health, the practice of douching is discouraged.
Wear cotton underwear and change them regularly.
Eat healthy diet. Behavioral change to minimize stress.
Hope this information is useful to you.
