Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
we live in a rural area and have taken my mother, who is 80,cu to the er and clinic 5 times over the last 10 days . she has what a couple doctors have said is a hematoma, another internist said he felt it was an infection and started her on antibiotics and had her come back a couple days latter. it had gotten worse so he felt she should be admitted to the hospital and started on iv antibiotics. we took her in they did an ulrtasound and said it was a hematoma and sent us home again. we are worried because today it looks as though it is forming a white head. can you help?
Generally a hematoma needs to be drained,if it is infected (as it looks -forming a white head). Antibiotic (IV initially - then oral) is indicted to prevent infection. Also she has to undergo investigation to determine the underlying cause of hematoma.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
