Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Sinus Infection

Hello. I am taking clindamycin for a sinus infection (5 of 7 days) and now I have a UTI. Very painful and I saw a little blood. I took some OTC meds for painful urination 2 hours ago with a little relief. Should I go to a walk in clinic and if so would another antibiotic be safe to take or will the test results be affected by the OTC drug I took.

Hello,

First of all, for the sinus infection, I suppose you have taken the medicine after consulting your doctor and I hope it’s resolved.

Let’s come to another issue of urinary tract infection that you are facing currently. When it comes to taking OTC medicines for such condition without consulting a doctor is something that I would not suggest to my patients. There are many reasons that can lead to painful urination and blood in urine. Most commonly infection is the cause.

I usually advice my patients not to panic. As you said you have taken some painkiller and it provided some temporary relief. It won’t affect your test results. it’s always best to seek medical help when you have symptoms like this.

So I would suggest you to see your doctor in person and as per his advice go for further investigations and antibiotics for this. Don’t worry about too much antibiotics as every medicine has its own mechanism of action as per the condition so if necessary your doctor will prescribe you proper medicines with all precautions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manisha Auradkar,
