Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Seizures Despite Taking Medication

my baby is 5 years old. after one day of his birth, he had hypoglycemic injury. He was admitted for 10 days in hospital. After birth, he got seizure at the age of 4.5 years. He admitted to hospital and MRI scan was done and in that it was shown the cause of seizure is gliosis. so doctor advised to take medication for 1 year. we did that, but after completion of medication 2 days later he got seizure for 1-2 minutes. so doctor advised to continue medication for 2 more years. do we ve any cure for this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sorry to hear it. Gliosis is an after effect of hypoglycemic injury and it doesn't resolve. However seizures may or may not subside in further course. As per medical literature one need to take medications for at least 2 years after the last episode of seizure. If there are no seizures in intervening period , doctor will order EEG and may stop medicine after 2 years if EEG is normal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
