Hello I recently had a bad virus with cough and nasal congestion that began about 2 and a half weeks ago. I ended up getting an ear infection for which my doctor gave me 10 days of doxycycline 100mgs twice daily. I finished the full course last night. Today my ears still feel congested with some pain returning in the right ear. So I went in to a clinic today to have a doctor look to see if it was still infected and she concluded that it was not infected but that the ear canal was irritated and there was still fluid behind the ear that hurts. She sent me home with a prescription for neomyacin drops. I am afraid that with the pain returning it really is infected still. Will the drops clear this up? I have used a warm compress to try to drain it. I sat in a steam shower as well making sure to keep water out. The pain is not unbearable, it is slight but I fear it will escalate in the night. Should I be worried that I need another antibiotic? The pain got better in antibiotics but I still had intermittent aches off and on.
