Suggest Treatment For Prolonged Cough With Scanty Mucus And Upper Back Pain

Hi, I have a soon to be 13 yr old son, atheletic and healthy, whom has had a cough for a week. No a major cough but strong hoarse cough, however not coughing a lot. Does cough up some mucus. He has started complain with right upper back pain. To the point sleeping in a chair tonight. Breathing does not seem compromised. Thoughts?

Pediatrician, Pulmonology 's  Response
Hello,

This could be a viral illness or a viral associated dry cough.
You can use syrup Benadryl. This is OTC. Although this is a first-generation antihistamine it is a very good cough suppressant also.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
