Suggest Treatment For Persistent Upper Back Pain

To any dr available, I have upper back pain for almost two weeks and its making me uncomfortable sitting down and do work. The upper back pain is causing stress to me because its affecting my daily routine. The pain is a localised left side. Accompanying it is muscle tightness on my left chest. Pls advise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would recommend using anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen, as well as warm pads and massage for now. If the pain persists beyond another couple of weeks, I would suggest seeing a doctor to get an exam and possibly X-ray to make sure there is nothing more serious there, though that would be unexpected. You may also need physical therapy to help recover from this, but normally this would not become a chronic problem and most patients recover within a few weeks to months.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
