Suggest Treatment For Persistent Throat Infection

I was having throat infection 45 days back. Doc gave Moxclave-625 for 5 days.(1-0-1). After 30 days I found that 50% of the infection is still existing. Doc repeated the same drug for another 5 days. Since last 5 days I was remaining with 10% od the infection with little or negligible occational ear pain. Doc gave Azithromycin-500(1-0-0) and Cetzine(0-0-1) for 5 days which ended yesterday. Salt water gargaling was carried on whenever I found irritation in throat. I feel that 5%-6% is still existing. Pl advise medicaments. S.SUDARSHAN BANGALORE-79 YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

Persistent throat infections can be a sign of a bacterial or viral infection, allergies, or other underlying conditions. Since you have already been on several courses of antibiotics and antihistamines, it is important to determine the underlying cause of the infection and address it accordingly.

An action plan with step to follow are:
* See an ENT specialist: If the infection persists, it may be a good idea to see an ENT specialist. They can examine your throat and perform tests to determine the underlying cause of the infection.
* Consider a culture test: If you have not had a culture test done, it may be a good idea to get one. This test can identify the specific bacteria or virus causing the infection, which can help your doctor select the most effective antibiotic.
* Use saline nasal drops: Saline nasal drops can help relieve congestion and reduce the post-nasal drip that can cause throat irritation.
* Take probiotics: Probiotics can help boost your immune system and improve your gut health. The risk of infection is reduced with having a healthy gut microbiome.
* Practice good hygiene: To reduce the risk of getting sick, wash your hands frequently, avoid close contact with sick people, and avoid touching your face.

It is important to remember that antibiotics should only be used when necessary and under the guidance of a healthcare professional. In some cases, alternative treatments such as herbal remedies or homeopathic treatments may be effective, but it is important to discuss these options with your doctor before trying them.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
