Suggest Treatment For Persistent Swelling In The Leg After Injury

I recently was gutted in my leg by our ram and was told I had a hematoma. I iced it and then used heat on it. I also wrapped it for about a week. The day after I stopped wrapping the swelling came back and my leg is spasming slightly. There was very little black and blue bruising. Is this in fact a hematoma or possibly something else?

Hi welcome to HCM, thank you for posting your query.
I being a surgeon have seen many such cases.
I read your question completely and have understood it.
Yes. In all likelihood it is a hematoma. Usually seen after trauma.
But I suggest you not to worry because most of the blood clots disappear eventually and will not Need any intervention.
I want to know few other things.
1. Are you on any kind of medications.?
2. Are you diabetic!?

If answer is no to both then you need not worry.
If diabetic, there are chances of infections.
And with some medicines like warfarin there is increased chances like bleeding.

I suggest you these things, your Coagulation profile should be normal.
More than 90 percent people won't have any problems if Coagulation profile is normal. Meaning they don't have bleeding tendency.

It also depends on the size of that swelling.

You can do these things.
1. If it's causing you problems, go for image guided aspiration. It helps. Or
2. Depending on size and time, you can wait.

Hope this helps you.. Take care friend.
