Suggest Treatment For Persistent Dry Cough

2.5 weeks post-upper respiratory cold/flu, still have spasmodic dry coughing a few times a day, plus mucus producing cough, and fatigue. Back of throat is yellowish-white on one side. Wonder if this is normal, or if I should consult with family physician.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

You are having bacterial infection of pharynx or upper respiratory tract as per history and this is secondary to previous viral infection...

You should be investigated with....
-Posterior pharynx examination and Auscultation
-CBC with AEC also
-ESR

You will be prescribed levofloxacine like good broad spectrum antibiotic

Here mucus production present Hence cough is wet

Mostly it will be bronchitis

Decongestant like chlorpheniramine or cetrizine will also be prescribed

If needed and cough not improving sputum examination and chest x ray done for further work up

If CBC shows eosinophila than for allergic inflammation fexofenedine prescribed

Take care

Consult physician or pulmonologoist for examination with keeping all this in mind

Hope your concern solved
