Suggest Treatment For Persistent Constipation

Recently, starting a few weeks ago, I ve had a frequent urges to have miniscule bowel movements. The stools are pencil-thin, soft, about five inches long , and kind of difficult to pass. I have constipation and my medicine is polyethylene glycol, which I take every few days, but this problem I have is new. I have these small bowel movements several times a day and at night, there is an urge to defecate, which I try to relieve, but no stool comes out, and I feel like I m holding stool for the rest of the night . In the morning I have a few small bowels as described above, and longer stools in the afternoon, but at night (9:50-10:00) I have an urge to defecate that I cannot relieve. Please help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I will suggest you see the doctor for examination and a stool exam/culture. If any germ identified, treatment will be prescribed. However, if results come back normal, your doctor may also consider a rectocolonoscopic exam.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
