Suggest Treatment For Persistent Chills, Hot Flashes And Headache

My 19 year old daughter has chills, hot flashes, can t sleep, and has had a headache for 2 weeks. No fever or swollen glands. She is otherwise very healthy. She is away at college and has gone to the health center on campus twice and just prescribed Meloxicam to help with the pain. What could it be? They also did some blood tests today but we won t find out those results till tomorrow YYYY@YYYY

Hi,

You will need to await lab results, however, possibilities range from an infectious viral entity to hormonal imbalances. In any college student with fever, continuous headache, and severe insomnia I would consider a lumbar puncture to rule out meningitis.

I would also suggest doing blood work to test for toxic/illicit substances since this must be suspected in any young person exhibiting unusual constitutional symptoms without a clear cut explanation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dariush Saghafi,
